About the Currimao project
Northern Sun Power Inc. (NSPI), a unit of Aboitiz Power, is gearing up to build a ₱18.6-billion solar power facility in Currimao, Ilocos Norte. Spanning the barangays of Bimmanga and Paguludan-Salindeg, the project will deliver 351.4 MW of solar capacity, paired with a 337.8 MWh battery system to stabilize output and boost grid reliability.
The project will span over 244 hectares, with 70% of the land owned by NSPI and the rest secured through lease agreements. At its construction peak, the project is expected to create around 2,000 jobs, tapering to 250 workers for ongoing operations.
Backed by a ₱18.6-billion investment, NSPI says the project aligns with the country’s broader push for renewable energy and supports the goals outlined in the Philippine Energy Plan.
Construction is slated to begin by the second quarter of 2027, with energization expected by Q3 2028. The facility is set to go fully online and start commercial operations in early 2029.
About the Talingaan development
Through the AboitizPower subsidiary North Luzon Green Power Inc., a solar power installation is being planned in Barangay Talingaan, Laoag City. The project will supply 187 MW of direct current solar energy and be equipped with a 277 MWh battery system to support grid stability.
With a projected cost of ₱15.9 billion, the Talingaan-Laoag solar venture is expected to generate around 1,500 jobs at the height of construction, tapering to 200 during regular build phases. Once operational, it will maintain a workforce of 90.
Construction is scheduled to kick off in late 2026, with energization eyed for early 2028.

Aboitiz’s expansion plan
Aboitiz Power is ramping up its push for clean energy, aiming to bring 3,600 MW of new renewable capacity online by 2030. This expansion is part of a broader plan to hit a 4,600 MW total in renewables, while still maintaining its fleet of thermal plants to meet the country’s round-the-clock power needs. The company is targeting a combined energy portfolio of 9,200 MW by the end of the decade.
The energy has set aside ₱78.1 billion in capital spending for 2025, directing the bulk of 66% toward renewable energy projects. Its lineup of solar developments includes the 212 megawatt-peak (MWp) Olongapo solar initiative in Zambales and the 89 MWp San Manuel solar venture located in Pangasinan.
