Zambales gets a big renewable energy (RE) investment in the form of a 300-megawatt (MW) wind farm. Proposed by RE developer Alba Viento Power Corp., the 34-billion peso project will not only bolster the local power supply but also add significant capacity to the Luzon grid.

“The proposed wind power plant will help augment the demand for reliable and affordable power supply,” Alba Viento said in a statement. “The project will not only supply electricity to Filipino households and businesses but will also contribute to national development.”

The company plans to connect the facility to the Botolan substation of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines. This gives the project a significant advantage as it has already identified a transmission point to the main grid, which is an important factor in determining an RE plant’s feasibility.

Aligned With National Goals

The project, as detailed in the company’s filing with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), is expected to cover 4,698 hectares, spanning the Botolan and Cabangan municipalities. It will feature higher-capacity wind turbine generators to maximize output while minimizing potential land and environmental impacts.

The company said that the project aligns with the Philippines’ renewable energy transition and supports the country’s clean energy goals. They will begin construction in the first quarter of 2027 and expect the facility to be commercially operational by the first quarter of 2029.

The projected launch date of the wind farm is crucial to the Philippine Energy Plan, which is targeting a 35% RE share by 2030 and 50% by 2040. The hope is that the project will be completed in time to help the country meet its RE goals.

Powering The Future Of Wind Power

As a special-purpose vehicle fully owned by Alba Renewables Philippines Corp., Alba Viento Power is poised to be a significant contributor to the country’s impending wind power boom. With the 25-year wind energy service contract it secured from the Department of Energy (DOE) in 2024, the company has set its sights on developing wind energy in Zambales.

Alba Renewables is positioning itself to become Southeast Asia’s top independent power producer within five years. While its core focus remains the Philippines, the company is actively expanding into Thailand and intends to enter a third regional market within the next two years.

Its growth strategy includes building a multi-gigawatt portfolio spanning operating plants, projects under construction, and developments in advanced stages.
