Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI) has taken a significant stride towards a greener future with the recent inauguration of its 1.056 MW rooftop solar power project. This initiative, a collaboration with Skye Renewables, is now operational at HPI’s manufacturing plant in Tanauan, Batangas.
Sayaka Arai-Hattori, President of Honda Philippines, Inc., emphasized that this inauguration is a pivotal step towards achieving Honda’s global carbon neutrality goal by 2050. “We are more than just a company that manufactures and sells products; we aim to be a positive force for society. This project signifies our commitment to environmental responsibility and our dedication to fostering a more sustainable future for our employees and customers,” she said.
To bring this initiative to life, HPI partnered with Skye Renewables, a leading developer of captive solar solutions in Southeast Asia. Gary Espino, Head of Philippines for Skye Renewables, expressed their commitment to supporting the energy transition across Asia. “We are delighted to support Honda Philippines, Inc. in its sustainability journey. With this project, we installed solar panels that convert the sun’s photons into electricity. This clean energy will power HPI’s operations during the day, and if needed, they can seamlessly switch to grid electricity when necessary.”
The solar power project comprises a total of 1,958 panels, each with a capacity of 540 watts. This technology leverages the abundant sunshine in the Philippines, fulfilling at least 35% of HPI’s maximum daytime energy demand. This equates to an annual clean energy utilization of 1,267 MWh, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels and contributing to environmental benefits.
In conclusion, Honda Philippines’ solar power project is not just a step towards reducing carbon footprint but also a testament to the company’s commitment to sustainability. It serves as a beacon of hope, lighting up Luzon with the promise of a cleaner, greener future.
