The National Home Mortgage Finance Corp. (NHMFC) has taken a notable step forward in promoting eco-friendly housing by forging a Green Covenant with Uanjelle Land Inc. and Stagno Properties.

Led by former Isabela Governor Faustino Dy Jr., the developers formalized the inclusion of Isabela’s Cathedral Village Project in NHMFC’s Building Eligible Resilient Dwelling for Everyone (BERDE) Program—an initiative focused on creating resilient, sustainable homes for Filipino families.

Sustainable housing

With interest rates starting at just 3% for terms of up to 30 years, the BERDE Program makes sustainable living more accessible to Filipino families. Designed for green-certified housing developments, the program not only rewards environmental responsibility but also helps ease the financial burden of homeownership.

By lowering energy consumption and cutting mortgage costs, the initiative enhances both monthly savings and long-term financial health. This dual benefit empowers homeowners with greater financial stability—paving the way for a higher standard of living and a more sustainable future.

Renewable energy is a key feature in the NHMFC’s vision for future housing. NHMFC President Renato L. Tobias underscored the agency’s firm commitment to fully integrating renewable energy solutions into government-backed housing developments, highlighting this shift as essential to building more resilient, sustainable communities.

Benefits for homeowners

Through Water.org, a non-government organization, residents of Isabela will soon gain improved access to clean water and proper sanitation. Tobias acknowledged the vital contributions of Dy, Uanjelle Land, and Water.org in helping bring the long-held aspirations of Isabeleños closer to reality.

The project’s abundance of open space—spanning 70% of the development—sets the stage for a greener lifestyle. In partnership with GBF New Power Group, it will feature integrated solar and microgrid systems, enabling 13,800 future homeowners to enjoy the added advantage of zero utility costs for the first five years.

“These renewable energy systems create new opportunities in construction, technology, and financial services,” Tobias explained. He added that NHMFC plans to convert the residents’ home loans into sustainable or green bonds, which will increase financial liquidity and help drive the ongoing expansion of green housing projects across the country.

With initiatives like BERDE, NHMFC continues to demonstrate its commitment to creating sustainable, forward-looking communities. This effort aligns closely with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s signature housing initiative, the Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) program, reinforcing a shared vision for accessible and eco-friendly homes nationwide.
