PetroEnergy Resources Corp. (PERC) announced that its affiliate, BKS Green Energy Corp. (BKSGEC), has received approval from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to connect its 33.8-megawatt (MW) solar project in Isabela to the grid.
This clearance will accelerate the development of the second phase the Limbauan solar power project. According to PERC, this initiative is “reportedly the first large-scale solar farm on the island,” adding that “it aims to help the island province reduce its dependence on fossil fuels.”
NGCP’s clearance validates the project’s compatibility with the Tuguegarao-Cabagan 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission system. Recognized by the Department of Energy (DOE) as nationally significant, the initiative aligns with the government’s energy objectives.
Meanwhile, an agreement to supply electricity to Isabela II Electric Cooperative (Iselco II) is awaiting approval from the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).
Earlier, PERC announced that the project is expected to be connected to the grid and start producing electricity as soon as October this year.

Previous milestones
The 5-MW first phase of the Limbauan solar project has received prior approval for its studies on distribution impacts and assets, along with the connection agreement with Iselco II. The second phase is scheduled for completion by December 2025 under the Green Energy Auction program.
PERC has teamed up with Trina Solar, a China-based expert in smart photovoltaics (PV) and energy storage, to advance its solar initiatives in the country.
The PV modules will be deployed across projects in Isabela, Nueva Ecija, and Pangasinan. PGEC is spearheading several solar ventures in these provinces, which will utilize over 129,000 modules, producing an estimated 129.14 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of energy annually.
“This amount of electricity is sufficient to power 53,800 Philippine homes each year based on average household consumption,” PGEC explained.
Their collaboration dates back to 2015, when Trina Solar supplied 27 MW of modules for PGEC’s Dagohoy solar PV project in Bohol.

Future projects
PGEC’s upcoming projects include the 25-MW Bugallon solar farm in Pangasinan, along with three offshore wind farms in northern Luzon, Panay, and northern Mindanao.
Meanwhile, their partnership with Trina Solar enables PGEC to explore various module options, including solar cell technology suited for utility-scale, commercial, and industrial projects.
Company officials have previously stated their commitment to driving the company’s expansion by developing new renewable energy projects. The company’s diverse renewable energy portfolio spans geothermal and solar initiatives throughout the Philippines.
