Power metering gets a high-tech boost as LINMAN Power Technology, Inc. and the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative (INEC) unveil the EnerTek Automatic Metering Infrastructure (AMI) in Ilocos Norte. The launch, held at INEC’s main office in Brgy. Suyo, Dingras, brought together local leaders and energy experts to celebrate this milestone in smart power distribution.

INEC was established in 1971 as part of the Philippine government’s rural electrification program. According to its official social media page, it is “the sole distribution utility in Ilocos Norte.”

Meanwhile, Lin Man Power Technology is a Laguna-based SEC-registered firm. It specializes in meter manufacturing and the import and trade of essential electrical equipment. The company focuses on research and development for its smart meters, ensuring the quality, dependability, and affordability of its products.

Benefits of an automated metering system

EnerTek AMI is a SIM-based smart metering solution designed to automate power consumption monitoring, reducing the need for manual intervention. This system allows power suppliers to manage service interruptions effectively by remotely disconnecting and reconnecting power depending on the consumer’s current credit. Because the system works on a prepaid basis, consumers have better control over their energy consumption

This cutting-edge technology complies with the Department of Energy’s (DOE) regulations, which advocate for the implementation of advanced metering infrastructure. Features like automated deactivation and alarms allow service disruptions to be managed without the need for on-site personnel. The rollout of AMI results in more accurate billing, reduced energy losses, and enhanced service delivery.

By replacing outdated meters with this advanced technology, electric cooperatives can streamline their operations, leading to cost reductions and improved service reliability. Consequently, consumers enjoy greater convenience and better energy management.

National Electrification Administration (NEA) Administrator Antonio Mariano Almeda called the technology “a bold step towards realizing NEA’s modernization initiatives for the rural electrification sector.” He also applauded INEC’s management and technical staff at INEC for their commitment to adopting such a forward-thinking strategy. “I am proud that INEC is one of the pilot projects of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure. Let us remain committed to innovation, collaboration and excellence,” he stated.

Jovita Kua Yeo, President of LINMAN Power Tech, emphasized the company’s dedication to providing “smart and innovative solutions” that enhance both electric cooperatives and consumers. The successful launch of AMI in Ilocos Norte demonstrates the company’s commitment to bridging the gap between “efficiency and accessibility.”

Eventual nationwide rollout

INEC and LINMAN Power Tech have effectively deployed AMI meters in several areas of Ilocos Norte, including Vintar, Bacarra, Laoag City, Nueva Era, Batac City, and Badoc. With this installation, the province is leading the way in embracing automated metering systems, establishing a benchmark for other regions as they prepare for the nationwide transition to modernized power distribution.

The nationwide shift to AMI will result in the replacement of all current meters with advanced smart technology. As electric cooperatives across the country get ready for this transition, LINMAN Power Tech remains focused on delivering creative and reliable energy services that support both utility providers and end-users.

The successful rollout of AMI in Ilocos Norte reflects our dedication to modernizing power distribution nationwide,” said Yeo.
